Culled from numerous concerts, Alive!
is considered their breakthrough, as well as a landmark for live
albums. Released on
September 10,
1975, the double-disc set contains live versions of
selected tracks from their first three studio albums. It made
KISS rock & roll superstars &
climbed into the Top Ten. Its accompanying single, "Rock 'N'
Roll All Nite," made it to number 12.

KISS was the brainchild of Gene
Simmons (bass, vocals) &
Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar, vocals),
former members of
the New York-based hard rock band
Wicked
Lester;
the duo brought in drummer Peter Criss through his ad in
Rolling Stone & guitarist Ace Frehley responded
to an
advertisement in The Village Voice.
Decked out in outrageously flamboyant costumes &
makeup,
the band fashioned a captivating stage show featuring
theatrics such as; elaborate lighting,
dry ice,
smoke bombs,
explosions, smoking guitar solos, fire breathing & blood
spitting.
Rooted in the campy theatrics of
Alice Cooper & the
sleazy hard rock of glam rockers the New
York Dolls,
KISS became a favorite of American teenagers in the
'70s.
Even at their first Manhattan
concert in 1973, the group's approach was quite theatrical;
Flipside producer Bill Aucoin
offered the band a management deal
after the show. Two weeks later, the band was signed to Neil
Bogart's fledgling record label, Casablanca. KISS released their
self-titled debut in February of 1974; it peaked at number 87 on
the U.S. charts. By April of 1975, the group had released three
albums & had toured America constantly, building up a sizable
fan base.

I wanted to
just tell you how awesome our costumes were at the costume
party. There was upwards of 3000 people & I am confident to say
(and heard it quite a few times), that we would have definitely
won the award had there been one for Best Costumes. My friend,
Dave, walked the party as if he
owned the place, and nobody told him different. We were asked
at least 50 times to take our picture with random people, like
we were professional impersonators or something. We were also
asked multiple times throughout the party and the rest of the
conference where we got the costumes, so I passed on the website
information, & told them that you are a pleasure to do business
with.
Thanks
again, and I will definitely keep you in mind for the big
Halloween party and next years conference (since you always have
to strive for something bigger & better) It will be hard to
beat, we are all still smiling.

The Grammy Award-winning album packaging was created by art
director Robert Fraser, mostly in collaboration with
McCartney. It featured a colourful collage of life-sized
cardboard models of famous people on the front & the Beatles
themselves, in the guise of the Sgt. Pepper band, were
dressed in custom-made military-style outfits made of satin
dyed in day-glo colours.

The Blond Ambition World
Tour was announced in November 1989 & was the third concert
tour by Madonna. The tour supported her fourth studio album,
Like a Prayer, as well as the soundtrack, I'm
Breathless. The tour reached Japan, North America, &
Europe. It was a highly controversial tour, mainly for its
juxtaposition of Catholicism & sexuality. Rolling Stone
called it an "elaborately choreographed, sexually
provocative extravaganza" & proclaimed it "the best tour of
1990." In 1991, a documentary film, Truth or Dare
(aka In Bed with Madonna), was released chronicling
the tour. The tour received the "Most Creative Stage
Production" at the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards.
The show has achieved a measure
of cult status, with elements such as the cone brassieres
and ponytail hair extensions becoming cultural icons in
their own right. Madonna herself
called the concert "like musical theater" and choreographer
Vincent Patterson stated she wanted to "break every rule we
can... She wanted to make statements about sexuality,
cross-sexuality, the church... But the biggest thing we
tried to do was change the shape of concerts. Instead of
just presenting songs, we wanted to combine fashion,
Broadway, & performance art.".

Madonna Costume
Madonna (born Madonna Louise Ciccone on
August 16, 1958) is an American recording artist, dancer,
actress & entrepreneur. Born in Bay City, Michigan & raised
in Rochester Hills, Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City
in 1977, for a career in modern dance. After performing as
member of the pop musical groups Breakfast Club & Emmy, she
released her self-titled debut album in 1983, & then
produced three consecutive number-one studio albums on the
Billboard 200 in the 1980s & four more since the year
2000.
Madonna is known for exploring religious symbolism &
sexual themes in her work. This drew criticism from the Vatican in the
late 1980s In 1992, she founded an entertainment company, Maverick,
which published a book of photographs (Sex). She also released a
studio album (Erotica) & starred in a film (Body of Evidence)
with erotic themes. These works generated negative publicity & coincided
with a fall in commercial sales in the 1990s. Madonna's career was
revived in 1998, when the release of her album Ray of Light
garnered critical acclaim.
Madonna has acted in 22 films. She earned a Golden Globe
Award for her role in the 1996 film Evita. She has been regarded
as "one of the greatest pop acts of all time" & dubbed the "Queen of
Pop" by various sources. She is ranked by the Recording Industry
Association of America as the best-selling female rock artist of the
twentieth century & the second top-selling female artist in the United
States with 63 million certified albums. Guinness World Records
list her as the world's most successful female recording artist of all
time & the top-earning female singer in the world with an estimated net
worth of US $490 million, having sold over 200 million records
worldwide. On March 10, 2008, she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame.
French fashion designer
Jean-Paul Gaultier designed the Madonna Costumes for the Blond Ambition
World Tour, including the now-infamous cone brassiere. Additional
costume pieces were designed by Marlene Stewart, who had previously
worked with Madonna on the 1987 Who's That Girl World Tour.
The
Blond Ambition World Tour show was separated into four different
sections & began with the Metropolis segment, which was inspired
by the Fritz Lang silent film. It begins with "Express Yourself" which
includes an introduction from her 1982 song "Everybody". The stage was
inspired by the "Express Yourself" music video & set in a large
industrial machine-room with male dancers. Madonna enters the stage at
the top of a long staircase, dressed in a pinstripe suit, with cone-bra
& garters from her bustier visible. In this segment Madonna also
performs "Open Your Heart" & has a mock-fight with her back-up dancers
in "Causing a Commotion" (dressed in colorful bicycling gear).
The Japan & North American shows featured
Madonna in her trademark blonde ponytail hair extensions. However,
because the hairpiece kept getting caught in her headset microphone &
was pulling her real hair out by the root, she switched to short blonde
curls for the European leg of the tour.
The tour grossed roughly $16 million for
its North American run, ranking No. 12 on the Pollstar top 20 concert

The "King of Pop" Thriller
Michael
Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 - June 25,
2009) was born in
Gary, Indiana USA & was an American musician, entertainer &
businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he
debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as
a member of The Jackson 5 & began a solo career in
1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the "King of
Pop" in subsequent years, five of his solo studio albums
have become some of the world's best-selling records: Off
the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982),
Bad
(1987), Dangerous (1991) &
HIStory (1995).
In the early
1980's, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music as
the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong
crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music
videos airing on MTV, such as “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” &
Thriller—credited for transforming the music video
into
an art form & a promotional tool—helped bring
the relatively new
channel to fame. With stage performances
and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically
complicated dance techniques, such as the robot &
the
moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style
influenced hip hop, pop & contemporary R&B artists.

Jackson donated & raised millions of dollars for
beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles & support of 39 charities.
Other aspects of his personal life, including his changing
appearance & behavior, generated significant controversy.
The singer
experienced health concerns starting in the early 1990s &
conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances
starting in the late 1990s. Jackson married twice & fathered
three children, all of which caused further controversy.
Michael was one of the few artists
to
have been inducted into the Rock
&
Roll Hall of Fame
twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness
World Records—including one for
"Most Successful
Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one
singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist
in the Hot 100 era—& the sale of over 750 million
units
worldwide. Cited as one of the world's most famous men,
Jackson's highly publicized personal life,
coupled with his
successful career, made him a part of popular culture
for almost four decades.
He died tragically in 2009 just a month before This Is It,
a series of 50 concerts was to open
in London, England.

Thriller Costume
performing in his
"Thriller' music video in 1983. The album was originally
released in 1982, when he was 24 years old. The 25th anniversary
edition of "Thriller" was released
February 11,
2008 , with the grandiose but factual subtitle "The World's Biggest
Selling Album of All Time". "Thriller" is, simply, a masterpiece -- an explosion of
attitude ("Beat It," "Billie Jean"), killer dance grooves ("Wanna Be
Startin' Somethin'") & adult-pop sophistication ("Human Nature," "Baby
Be Mine"). "The Girl Is Mine," a duet with Paul McCartney, is an
effortless charmer, while the title track, featuring horror-movie sound
effects & a guest speech by horror king Vincent Price, frees Jackson's
imagination, on record, as it had never been freed before.
Since its release, "Thriller" has sold 104 million copies worldwide. The
second album on the list, AC/DC's "Black in Black," comes in at less
than half that amount (42 million).

made the singer's
clothes for more than 20 years.
Inspiration for Michael
Jackson's Costumes came from magazines the designers examined with the
star. Jackson was the final arbiter. Bush said Jackson once issued a
challenge to the designers: "This is what the world's wearing. Top it."
Jackson's vests were made
with silk from India, elaborate jacquard designs from Europe and faux
reptile fabric from downtown Los Angeles. Jackson loved military details
because they "demand attention . . . have clean lines and they fit
almost like dance clothes". Though Jackson's clothes appeared
extravagant, price was an issue, Bush said. "He's a businessman. A lot
of people assume money means nothing to him,
but that's not true."
Over the years, the designers
have used wool, silk, canvas, ripstop nylon, silver, gold, British
regalia, police badges & even car parts. They made a jacket with
elements crafted from bonnet ornaments & another festooned with badges
from European racing car clubs. Bush said Jackson once called in the
middle of the night & asked: "What's the one thing that every man, woman
& child in the world knows?" Mickey Mouse was the first thing that came
to Bush's mind. But eating utensils were what Jackson was thinking. "He
said, 'How are you going to make that into clothing for me?"'
The result was a jacket with
knives, forks & spoons hanging from the front. "Michael calls it his
dinner jacket, that's the humour, the human side that no one knows,"
Bush said.
